Visualising our food future

What does the future of UK food production actually look like? The University of York had the research. Soak helped give it a unique identity.

Abstract ideas about the future can be hard to convey clearly. York University required a series of illustrations to effectively illustrate impending changes in farming practices, land use, and diet. These illustrations needed to be engaging, accessible, and credible enough to support serious academic research.

Vector illustrations with hand-drawn charm

Soak produced a suite of illustrated infographics, each beginning life as hand-drawn sketches before being vectorised into a flexible library of visual assets.

The hand-drawn starting point was a deliberate choice: it kept the early stages loose and collaborative, allowing the University team to help shape the detail before anything was committed to its final form. The result is a body of work that balances warmth and rigour — illustrations with enough character to engage a general audience, and enough precision to represent the research faithfully.

A rich visual asset library that brings the University of York's food futures research to life, and gives it the reach and resonance that written findings alone can rarely achieve.
