The Brief

To empower a global community of gamers to influence the outcome of ’Dread Solstice’ an interactive story to support the launch of the Malign Portents board game.

Our Approach

To create a six-week campaign that revolved around a flexible narrative, that presented users with a series of story-based dilemmas.

Users were encouraged to read each dilemma and choose their preferred path, building a storyline, which on completion was available as an ePub download.

The immersive microsite also lets users explore eight mortal realms and the characters that inhabit them. In-depth video tutorials guide users on how to paint the characters and provide behind the scenes insights into how the game came to life.


The campaign quickly gained traction across the Games Workshop community. Across the 6-week campaign, there were over 170,000 submissions across 151 different countries, resulting in higher volumes of foot-fall to the stores and increased sales.
