Painting Warhammer
At SOAK, we like to get involved first hand with our client’s products and services to get a good understanding and knowledge when working with their brand.
So while working on many projects with Games Workshop, we were very excited to be given a box of miniatures to assemble and paint! Painting Citadel miniatures lies at the heart of Games Workshop so a group of us at SOAK devoted a Monday evening to finally see what the hype was about!
There was a process we needed to follow to turn our miniatures into a masterpiece...
First, assemble the army!
The box we were given was the Storm of Sigmar including; 3 Stormcast Eternals Liberators, 2 Stormcast Eternals Retributors, 3 Khorne Bloodbound Blood Warriors and 5 Khorne Bloodbound Bloodreavers. We had to detach the components from the sheets and assemble them using the glue provided.
This comes in a form of a spray can, and helps paint adhere to your miniature and also helps prevent paint chipping off. Which is important, because when turning up to battle you want to look your best!
Now it’s time for the fun (but stressful for some) part... Painting!
There were many different techniques from different members of the SOAK team, and there was definitely a competitive atmosphere! Being someone who can’t even paint their nails without making a mess, I was worried! But actually began to surprise myself.
Some people decided to research the colours of their model so they could get them spot on and ’professional’, whereas some people preferred to freestyle and go with whatever popped into their head.
There were also many different painting techniques used. Some of the team decided to do it in layers, painting the whole miniature a colour, then adding detail with another. Others painted the elements separately and there was even shading added by the more confident members!
Final results
Considering it was everyone’s first attempt, I think that we all did pretty well! It was a great team building exercise and got our creative juices flowing! While we are no experts, it gave us a great insight into how much time and effort goes into the creation of miniatures.
